AI Engineering Lead
London, Hybrid | £125,000 – £150,000
We are working with a large international organisation that is making significant investment in artificial intelligence and looking for an experienced AI Engineering Lead to help shape and deliver its next generation of AI capability.
This is a senior technical leadership position combining AI engineering, architecture, people management and strategic input. You will lead the delivery of production-ready AI and machine learning solutions, taking ideas from initial use case and technical design through to deployment, integration and ongoing improvement.
You will remain close enough to the technology to provide credible engineering direction, while also leading a specialist team and working with senior stakeholders to identify where AI can deliver genuine business value.
What you will be doing
Define the technical direction for scalable AI and machine learning solutions across the organisation.
Lead the design and delivery of AI products from experimentation and model development through to production deployment.
Work with senior business and technology stakeholders to evaluate potential AI use cases and translate requirements into deliverable solutions.
Provide technical leadership across architecture, engineering standards, model integration and platform development.
Lead, mentor and develop AI engineering professionals across a distributed environment.
Oversee external technology partners where required, ensuring quality, delivery and value.
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to improve existing platforms, processes and services.
Ensure AI initiatives are prioritised effectively and deliver measurable organisational benefit.
What we are looking for
You will have substantial experience delivering AI and machine learning solutions within complex commercial environments, together with the leadership skills to guide both people and technology.
Strong experience across machine learning, applied AI and software engineering will be essential, alongside proficiency with languages such as Python, R or C#.
You should also bring experience of:
Taking machine learning or AI solutions through to production.
Modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn.
Cloud-based AI environments, ideally Microsoft Azure, although AWS or GCP backgrounds will also be considered.
Designing scalable architectures and integrating AI capabilities with wider enterprise applications.
Leading experienced engineering, ML or data science teams.
Working effectively with senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Using modern AI-assisted software engineering tools within appropriate development, testing and security controls.
You will combine strong technical judgement with commercial awareness and be comfortable making decisions in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. Experience gained within a large corporate, consultancy or professional services environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
This is an opportunity to take a highly influential role within an organisation where AI is becoming a significant part of the technology strategy, with the scope to shape both the engineering capability and how AI is applied across the wider business.
